Stacey Nelson, LCPC, LCPAT, ATR-BC has been teaching in the art therapy department since 2010.  She received her M.A. in Expressive Therapies from the University of Louisville in 1997 and her B.A. in Studio Art and Psychology from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 1995.  She has a Post-Masters Certificate in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University.   

Stacey provides art therapy to special needs students at the Kennedy Krieger School in Rockville, MD.  Prior to this, Stacey worked locally at an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting and for 12 years at Acute Child Psychiatric Services (a Community Mental Health setting) in Louisville, Kentucky as a Clinical Supervisor where she led a team providing assessments and short term therapy to children and their families.

Stacey’s article “Art Therapy:  Controlling Symptoms with Creativity” was published in the Summer 2013 issue of ADDitude magazine.  Stacey is a member of the Maryland Art Therapy Association and the American Art Therapy Association.  She is a Red Cross Certified Disaster Mental Health Responder and certified as a Trauma Specialist through the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children.
