Miki Goerdt is a Board-Certified Art Therapist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia. She received her Master of Social Work degree and the Advanced Graduate Study Certificate in Art Therapy from Marywood University. Her career focus has been older adults, and she has provided art therapy at various settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, private homes, mental health programs, and private practice.

Currently she has a private practice in Virginia and works primarily with older adults, immigrants, and clients of color. In her work with clients, she utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Reminiscing Therapy, Life Review Model, Person-In-Environment approach, Expressive Therapy Continuum, and Critical Race Theory. Her clinical focuses are mood disorders, grief, aging related issues, acculturation, and racial identity.

Miki has previously taught at George Mason University’s social work graduate program. She enjoys presenting on topics related to older adults and art therapy as well as culturally empowering practices at conferences and local agencies. As a clinician, an educator, and a social justice advocate, she is committed to applying anti-oppressive approaches in her practice and pedagogy. 

As a visual artist, Miki exhibits her oil paintings, mixed media art, and images created by printmaking methods. She believes that it is imperative for art therapists to maintain their artist identity through an ongoing artmaking practice.
