Deborah Bunkley, MA, ATR-BC, LCPAT, received her Master of Arts in Art Therapy from the George Washington University where she was the recipient of the Elizabeth Bapst Award.  She has been teaching as a Professional Lecturer in the Art Therapy department since 2014. As a licensed and board-certified clinician, Deborah specializes in working with the Acute Inpatient population at a behavioral health hospital in Maryland and currently provides therapy to children, adolescents, adults and seniors. In her role she has served as Clinical Services Supervisor at Washington Adventist Hospital where she led a team of therapists and social workers.

Deborah is passionate about working to help grow the field of art therapy as a vital service to the mental health community. She has served as President of the Potomac Art Therapy Association (2010-12) and as Local Arrangement Committee Chair for the American Art Therapy Association’s 2011 conference held in Washington, DC. In addition, she has served on the board and as Chair of the CREATE Arts Center in Silver Spring, MD.

“My hopes are to see the art therapy profession continue to be accepted as an evidence-based practice and that art therapists become more widely viewed as a viable resource who can contribute valuable information to treatment teams, whether in a clinical, school or community setting.”
