Art Therapy Gallery Space throughout the Building

Every human is an artist. And this is the main art that we have: the creation of our story.
                                                                                                                                                                ~Don Miguel Ruiz

The GW Art Therapy Program believes in developing the ‘artist identity’. Too often, it seems, art therapists lose track of that aspect of themselves and our profession. Having a 108 linear foot gallery space encourages and nourishes the artist identity in art therapy students. There is also a designated faculty space so that students can see that their professors have retained their own identity as artists. The majority of the space holds three exhibits per year: an incoming student exhibit in the Fall, the graduating class show in the Spring, and a special summer exhibit. In the summer, we may schedule a juried show, an invitational, a themed exhibition, or another type of art therapy-related exhibition. We also schedule workshops that correspond to the work in the summer exhibition, for students and professionals, thereby providing an opportunity to learn new or specialized skills.
