Tracy Councill is a native of Boone, NC, and a longtime resident of the Washington, DC area. She earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1978. She served as Arts Coordinator for Watauga County, NC from 1980-84, and worked for several years developing and showing her own art before learning about the profession of Art Therapy. She received her MA in Art Therapy from The George Washington University in 1988. After working with adolescents and adults in psychiatric settings, Ms. Councill started the Art Therapy Program in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Georgetown University Hospital in 1991. She continues to head the program at Georgetown, and to direct the Tracy's Kids Art Therapy Program of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation, which is sponsoring a new Art Therapy Program in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Block printing on cloth and on paper, landscape and figure drawing and painting are her longtime favorite creative media.
